Lead-solo pre-climb checklist

Same checks as the rope-solo wizard. Petzl does not authorize GRIGRI / NEOX for self-belay. Notice. All boxes ticked is still not a license to solo.

Start anchor. Multi-directional, two or more independent pieces that hold an upward pull. Rope end tied with a figure-8 to the master point.
Device path. Climber side takes the load from the anchor (HUUD). Locker locked. Chest tether holds the device so the cam can close. Partner-belay orientation is the error.
Rope stack. Brake/free end flaked clean in a bag or pile. Load strand is the one that will run through protection.
Backup knots. Tie a figure-8 or overhand on a bight on the brake strand every 5 m (about 3 m for the first pieces and any crux). Clip each knot to its own gear loop. Untie as you pass it. Never skip the first knot below the device.
Ground test. Pull hard on the load strand. The cam must lock. If it does not, do not leave the ground.
Jesus piece. First protection within 1–2 m. Clip the load strand. Do not start a factor-2 onto the start anchor.
