Hauling
The pig is a second climber that does not help. Static haul line. Progress-capture at the high anchor. Dock before you start the next lead. Use a rope rated for the job (EN 1891 low-stretch for dedicated haul lines). Do not haul on a chewed lead rope over a sharp lip if you have a choice.

1:1 at the anchor
- Fix a progress-capture pulley to a dedicated anchor point, not the only bolt the leader is hanging on if you can avoid it.
- Haul line from the bag, through the PCP, to your hands.
- Pull. The cam holds each bite. Use body weight, not biceps.
- If the bag is heavier than you can move, stop and change ratio. Fighting a 1:1 until you blow a locker is not a strategy.
2:1 — far-end vs bag pulley
- Bag-pulley 2:1: a pulley on the pig, rope through it and back to the anchor PCP. Half the force, twice the rope. This is the usual heavy-pig fix.
- Far-end / counterweight: after the PCP, you hang on the free strand and lower yourself to lift the bag. Works when you weigh less than the pig and have a clean drop. Do not do this into space you cannot get back from.
Docking
- When the bag reaches the stance, clip a docking tether (cordelette + munter-mule, or a rated strap) from the anchor to the bag's haul point.
- Transfer weight onto the tether. Confirm the bag is on the anchor, not only on the PCP.
- Then you may drop the haul system or reset it for the next pitch.
- Keep the ledge, the bag, and the climbers on labeled points so a tired hand does not unclip the pig.
Stuck pig
- Stop hauling. Lock the PCP. Do not keep yarding until the bag wedges harder or the lip cuts the rope.
- Try a tag / lower-out from the bottom of the bag to pull it off the feature.
- If that fails, someone goes to the bag on a fixed line with a backup — they do not free-solo down the haul line.
- Pad the lip before you resume. A static line sawing on granite is a cut waiting for load.
When this system is the wrong tool
- You are trying to catch a lead fall on the haul line. Use a dynamic lead rope.
- The lip is a cheese grater and you have not padded it.
- You are alone and the bag is stuck below a roof you cannot reach on a fixed line.
